Bicycle Ride Across Georgia Announces 2020 Summer Route

Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) has announced planned cycling routes and overnight camping destinations for the weeklong 2020 Big BRAG event.

The next Big BRAG Summer ride, now in its 41st consecutive year, is scheduled to start May 30 at the top of Lookout Mountain, close to the Tennessee border. Participants will cycle backroads and paved bike trails over the next several days and have access to fully stocked rest stops every 10-20 miles, support and gear (SAG) vehicles, and medics. BRAG operations move locations every day. Participants camp along the route in Lafayette, Cave Spring, Carrollton, Senoia, and LaGrange. The trip finishes on June 6 with a celebratory lunch and festivities along the Chattahoochee River in Columbus, Georgia.

“This route is one of the most scenic, shortest, and most exciting BRAG has had in recent memory,” says BRAG’s Executive Director, Franklin Johnson. “Last year was a pretty tough route, so we’re switching it up in 2020. The rides each day will be shorter but packed with a lot of fun, both on and off the bike.”

The theme of the 2020 Big BRAG trip is “Under the Covers with BRAG.” Live entertainment each evening features bands covering the 80’s, The Beatles, The Doors, Neil Young, Allman Brothers, The Cars and more.

Early on Sunday, May 31, close to 1200 cyclists from across the country will make a fast descent of about 3,000 feet and then cycle a portion of U.S. Bicycle Route 21 (USBR 21) to spend the night in Lafayette, Georgia. On Monday, June 1, BRAG riders continue on USBR 21 to the next overnight town, Cave Spring, Georgia, camping in the beautiful Rolater Park next to a giant natural spring-fed swimming pool. The route on June 2 crosses over the Silver Comet trail on the way to Carrollton and includes extra mileage for an optional century ride (100 miles).

June 3 is a rest day in Carrollton, although cyclists may elect to ride the 17 mile Carrollton GreenBelt bike path. The rest day activities may include brewery visits, ziplining, canoeing or kayaking, concluding with a music festival. Departing Carrollton on June 4, the Big BRAG route takes riders across rolling hills into Senoia. On June 5 to LaGrange via a beautiful new path, the Thread. From LaGrange, BRAG cyclists pedal straight south on June 6 into Columbus, riding on the Riverwalk parallel to the Chattahoochee River.
