Bike Atlanta 2007 is a joint venture between the Atlanta Daily World and the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG).  The Atlanta Daily World is Atlanta’s oldest continuously published Black-owned newspaper.  BRAG is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing affordable, family-oriented quality bicycle tours in and across Georgia.

Bike Atlanta benefits the BRAG Dream Team.  The BRAG Dream Team is a group of disadvantaged youths who are equipped with new bicycles, helmets, training, insurance, etc. to enable them to ride in and complete the annual BRAG ride.  The 2007 Dream Team just completed The Dream Team’s 14th annual BRAG ride in June.

The Bike Atlanta ride is a family-friendly bicycle tour.  It is not a race.  All Bike Atlanta routes begin and end at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site on Auburn Ave. in downtown Atlanta.  The 13-mile route includes the scenic neighborhoods of Cabbagetown, Grant Park, Midtown, Georgia Tech, Downtown, Vine City, The Herndon Home, Castleberry Hill, Mechanicsville and Summerhill.  There is also a 5-mile option for those who want less miles.  In-line skaters are welcomed.  There is also be a 1-mile fun ride for small children.  This ride is on the Path behind the King Center.

For cyclists wanting more mileage, there is an optional 32-mile round trip route following the Path Foundation’s Stone Mountain Trail from the King Center to Stone Mountain Park and back, making a total of 45 miles.  Once at Stone Mountain, cyclists are also welcomed to ride the 5 or 7-mile loops within Stone Mountain Park for even more mileage.  Streets will not be closed for these optional rides, but the majority of the route is on a multi-use path.

Bike Atlanta will go rain or shine.  The ride will not be rescheduled due to weather or circumstances beyond the control of the organizers.

Helmets are mandatory on Bike Atlanta.
